A fast paced, cut-out style animation with plenty of attitude and frame-by-frame drawings that feel like they’ve been scratched directly into the distressed film footage. The sequence showcases each of the six protagonists and their eccentricities.

Then the tiger shows up, swallows them whole, and we follow them down through different layers, all the way down to earth. The scene is smashed apart, revealing the coins that will determine their fate on ‘The Journey to the West’. Pretty standard stuff ︎
